Profile: The Hungryhouse web site gives people an easier way to find and order a takeaway. It serves London and several other UK cities. To start collecting payments from customers online, Hungryhouse wanted to integrate PayPal Website Payments Pro (UK).
Scope: Credit cards processing on hungryhouse web site was the major point for the integration project. Customers should never leave the hungryhouse web site during checkout process. Payment transactions should be kept in the database for further analysis.
Details: Website Payments Pro (UK) HTTPS interface was used for the integration. The HTTPS interface allows you to post transactions directly to the PayPal servers. This is quite an easy, yet powerful way to handle payment transactions including credit cards.
There was no standard content management system in the back-end thus it was impossible to use integration packages and patches developed earlier. The code written from scratch was handling all the operations.

Profile: Secure Proxy Network (SPN) is an established company specialising in internet privacy and security services. The company sells monthly subscriptions to the network of CGI proxies. The company needed to integrate Website Payments Standard.
Scope: The main idea was to automate customer subscriptions management. SPN planned to use the Subscriptions Password Management feature in order to display the PayPal-generated username and password to the buyer during checkout. Also SPN wanted their customers to make additional payments in case they required a bandwidth upgrade.
Details: A PayPal Premier or Business account was needed to use PayPal subscriptions. Instant Payment Notification (IPN) functionality was used to automate subscription handling. During the checkout precedure the buyer was redirected to the secure PayPal page for Authentication. Subscription terms were described before the buyer made initiial payment. When the payment was made the buyer received unique username and password which were generated by PayPal. At the same time the IPN system sent a notification to the SPN server to enable new subscription. The buyer returned to the SPN server, authorised there and started using the service.
In case the customer did not want to continue using the service for the next month he/she could go to the subscription management page at PayPal and cancel it. The IPN system notified the SPN servers immediately about this change so the subscription were cancelled at the end of the current term.
Some active users were downloading a lot of data through the SPN servers so they wanted to upgrade their initial bandwidth limit. It was possible to increase the bandwith limit by buying additional download credits. The IPN system helped track these transactions and update users' limits at the SPN servers. |

Profile: XROXY.COM web site is one of the biggest in the industry. It offers users access to the open proxy database, Xorum message board and CGI web proxy service. The owner wanted to introduce restricted areas on the site and enable paid access to them. PayPal Website Payments Standard was chosen as a simple yet powerful way to collect payments.
Scope: It was necessarry to automate user subscriptions handling since it was impossible for the operator to monitor them manually. XROXY.COM owner also wanted to monitor all the transaction users make and create customized reports.
Details: XROXY.COM web site was initially build on powerful phpBB message board engine. Later web site was extended and new areas were introduced but phphBB engine always was the core of the web site. Users authorisation was done using phpBB database. Web site offers access to the CGI web proxy service, Xorum proxy message board and updated list of proxies of different kinds. Three elite user groups were introduced. Registered users were able to join elite group by paying monthly membership fee.
PayPal Website Payments Standard was integrated into the web site. IPN functionality allowed us to handle all the transactions - initial subscription creation, regular payments, and subscription cancelations. Refunds and Chargebacks were also monitored. As soon as IPN message was received by the merchant server it was immediately processed and all the necessary updates were made to the user table.
